China's steel billet industry

The integration of China's steel billet industry and new energy industry lies in the fact that steel billets serve as basic raw materials, deeply supporting the rapid development of new energy industries such as wind power, photovoltaics, energy storage, and electric vehicles, and achieving its own green and high-end transformation in the process. On the demand side, the construction of new energy has generated a huge demand for high-end steel. It is predicted that during the 15th Five Year Plan period, the average annual increase in steel consumption for wind power, photovoltaics, and energy storage will reach 17.48 million tons, 10.34 million tons, and 260000 tons, respectively. Wind turbine towers require thick plates with high strength and low temperature resistance (such as Q690 and above grade high-strength steel), while photovoltaic brackets consume a large amount of hot-dip galvanized steel and weather resistant steel. On the supply side, steel companies actively research and develop special steel products that are suitable for new energy scenarios. For example, Baosteel's rare earth high wind power steel ensures the stable operation of ultra large wind turbines in complex environments; Jiyuan Iron and Steel provides special steel materials such as large round billets for wind power and ocean engineering. At the same time, in order to meet the lightweight and safety requirements of electric vehicles, the application of high-strength steel in battery pack shells has attracted much attention due to its excellent impact resistance and fire resistance. In addition, the steel billet industry itself is also undergoing a green energy revolution. Many steel companies are implementing low-carbon transformation from the energy consumption end by constructing photovoltaic and energy storage projects in their factory areas, utilizing 'green electricity' to make steel, and building an 'integrated light storage steel' model. This two-way empowerment of 'material supported industry, industry driven upgrading' is driving a profound transformation of China's steel billet industry from traditional high energy consuming manufacturing to green, high value-added new material suppliers.
