Chinese steel plate industry

The Chinese steel plate industry has achieved deep empowerment transformation through technological innovation in the past decade. At the policy level, in 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and five other departments jointly issued the 'Work Plan for Stable Growth of the Steel Industry (2025-2026)', which clarifies the strategic direction of strengthening industrial technological innovation and enhancing the supply capacity of high-end products. On the technological path, the industry has shifted from scale expansion to stock optimization. By 2025, crude steel production will decrease to 961 million tons, with a focus on promoting the upgrading and transformation of process equipment and digital green transformation. In terms of research and development innovation, enterprises take the lead in integrating industry, academia, and research, building a 'demand research conversion' closed-loop platform, and overcoming common technical challenges such as high-end special steel and steel slag resource utilization. In terms of product upgrades, the quality of bulk products continues to improve, and high-end steel plates are being applied and expanded in fields such as automobiles, shipbuilding, and new energy to meet the upgrading needs of the manufacturing industry. The development model has transitioned from being a 'steel giant' to a 'steel powerhouse', using technological innovation to break through industry 'internal competition' and cultivate new quality productivity. In the future, the steel plate industry will continue to deepen the integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation, and provide core material support for the high-quality development of the national economy through the dual wheel drive of new materials and new scenarios.
